CLAMSHELL HELP

Clamshell Club Ladies I need help please.

These are photos of my Clamshells in progress.  My question is

Do I need the seam allowance on the stalk part or can I cut it close to the template.

Oh and not sure whether to use the Burgundy or Black Fabric.   Any comments please.

and another design...  NOT THESE COLOURS  but using my Oriental Fabrics

Not a clamshell lady - rather the reverse LOL SOoo... for my twopen'oth I can only comment on the colours - beautiful, but burgandy rather than black me thinks. ;-)

No clamshell experience either, but that never stopped me from having an opinion!! Leave the seam allowance and use the black!

I don't have clamshell experience, but why couldn't you reduce the seam allowance? For hand-piecing, the "rule" is to have only a 3/16th-inch seam allowance.

Sorry for this belated comment Sheila. You should leave the seam allowance of the stalk about 1/4" just like ordinary patchwork. You do need that much to sew the curved tops on. The 'heads' should be sewn on the template line for a neat fit. I hope you understand what I mean English not being my mother tongue.

Oh yes, you need the seam allowance on the stalk. That is the overlap for placing the next clamshell and then you applique it on.

all good advice ... but your template looks as though the seam allowance is ALREADY included.

I see you've already had good advice to leave the seam allowance on..
I like your design.
I am still unsure what direction mine is taking...
